Excel Transpose, Convert & Highlight
(a better name is welcome!) is a general tool to convert genetic spreadsheet data to a format accepted by commonly used Genetic software, or to open quantitative data and perform highlighting (similar to conditional formatting but with more options and a flexible threshold).
It was created after struggling with the excel 255 column limit, and the specific formats required by various analysis suites, that did not match very well and made me spend a lot of time in simple conversion of data. As I use this now and then and am happy with it I decided to share it on the web.
Currently conversion from JOINMAP (A/H/B) style coded locus data to STRUCTURE or TASSEL styled (textual) input matrices is supported. Note that in many cases you can also use GGT to convert locus data to MEGA or SPLITSTREE format.
Of course you can also use the tool to transpose data (eg data that does not fit into the excel because of the 255 column limit) and save the transposed data as comma delimited or tab delimited text.
- To download the software click here (no installer, single executable and example file zipped)
There is no manual available (yet), just give it a try and compare the results with the manuals of TASSEL and structure. Even after conversion sometimes small adjustments may be required to get your data accepted (include or remove a tab in the first line fro structure etc)
A screenshot of the highlighting function of the software is shown below. by dragging the bar you can change the threshold for highlighting in a near continuous fashion. Also the size of the matrix cells ban be modified to make things fit.

Original locus data from excel file (has 884 rows)

Transposed matrix: (now has 884 columns)

Transposed matrix is used to convert to STRUCTURE format..

or to TASSEL format..
